Our Borrowed Go-To Recipes

Updated: Jul 7

If there is anything that's constant around here, it's cooking and someone saying, "I'm hungry!" I'm constantly looking for new recipes, but these are some of our favorites that I go to again and again. They're not mine, but some I frequent on other sites that are just so perfect, I revisit them often (a few I've even memorized by now!).

These little bites of perfection became a repeat treat last fall while I was looking for something to get us into the fall mindset. They are so delicious, we make them at least once a month year round with organic canned pumpkin that we can thankfully find available all the time.

Personally, I eat more plant based, but our little one and my husband LOVE these chicken tenders. They're everything you'd want in a tender: moist, crispy and oh so satisfying. Plus they're easy to make, especially with the author's tips on keeping your hands clean while dredging the chicken in the different mixtures.

These are so good and so satisfying. We love they're baked, so we're saving a few calories by avoiding the deep-fried doughnuts that are also delicious, but not as good for our health goals. We usually skip the topping and do a side option for our five year old with confectioner's sugar and soy milk to make a glaze. They're truly delicious as is with nothing added to the top, but with food based coloring on a glaze for a five-year-old, that glaze is definitely preferred.

We make these often and the recipe is definitely committed to memory at this point. I usually add cinnamon, sometimes a tablespoon or two of oats, or occasional other tweaks to our tastes. The recipe is very forgiving and perfect for our mixed-diet preference family--everyone loves them!

This is another staple I like to mix in to our weekly prep from time to time. It's a nice change from store-bought and it's nice to be able to put our on spin on the recipe, especially with the changing palate of our five year old!

This isn't one, but MANY recipes and all we've tried have been great. We revisit them again and again and the app is just so wonderful for us: you can scroll through and easily assemble a meal plan for the week and with the click of a button, the app assembles your grocery list. We love how easy the app is to use and how adaptable it can be for various diet needs. Give it a try, if you haven't. I bet you'll be hooked, too!

We try and stay away from a lot of additives and preservatives in food and one item that's been a struggle to find reliably without all the extras is tortillas. So we now make our own and they can easily be adapted to suit dietary needs. We make ours with whole wheat flour and they turn out perfectly every time.

8. Bread Recipe from Minimalist Baker

We love making our own bread and there are so many benefits to doing so... my favorite is how good our house smells after baking a batch. This recipe by the Minimalist Baker is so good and we love all the healthy add-ins.

9. Tofu Ground Beef from Cook Eat Live Love

Trying to work in more meat-free recipes each week has been even easier with this recipe. We use this one all the time for tacos, wraps, and I even made a vegan bolognese once with these crispy crumbles and it turned out delicious! My meat-loving husband even said the tofu worked out well in the recipe. I'd say that's a huge win!

I've eaten my share of brownies and these truly are the best I've tried. They're everything you want a brownie to be... gooey, dark chocolatey, a little salty, and the perfect amount of fudgy decadence to fill that late night craving. They're just perfect!

We hope you'll enjoy some of these recipes as much as we have and find something new to prepare for your family. If they're anything like ours, your people will be coming back for more (especially for those brownies). Enjoy!
